In 1916, Elmer Smith founded the company Smith Inventions, which would later become Tescom. For the first years of the company, their products were centered around oxy-acetylene welding and cutting equipment, though they also developed a few other products around this time as well. By the end of the 1950’s, the business expanded beyond welding and began producing high pressure regulators before renaming themselves to Tescom Corporation. In the late 1980’s, the business was handed off from the family of Elmer Smith through an LBO sale. Soon after, Tescom began to expand with an office in the United Kingdom and pushed into the European market. In 1993, the decision was made to refocus their business around the fluid controls industry and it was then that they retired production on the oxy-acetylene products that they first established their company around. Through the end of the decade and into the 2000’s, Tescom continued expansion into the European market, establishing themselves in Germany as well. In 2005, Emerson Electric Company acquired Tescom Corporation.
